Erasmus+ BIP Ljubljana: “Rivers and Cities: Living with Urban Streams and Flows”

As part of the Erasmus+ BIP (Blended Intensive Programme), five scholarships are available for students enrolled in the Degree Course in Building Engineering-Architecture, covering part of the costs, to participate in the Territorial Innovation Summer School ‘Rivers and Cities: Living with Urban Streams and Flows’, to be held in Ljubljana.

Now in its fourth edition, the initiative is the result of collaboration between the University of Ljubljana, the Polytechnic University of Marche, the University of Palermo, Leibniz University Hannover and the Estonian Academy of Arts. It is a travelling workshop dedicated to territorial innovation, which integrates different skills and methodological approaches to address contemporary urban challenges through innovative tools for planning, urban design and architecture. Following previous editions in Hannover, Jesi-Ancona and Palermo, the 2026 edition is organised by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana.

The workshop consists of an online phase and an in-person phase, combining lectures, expert contributions, case study analysis and best practices with the development of concrete proposals for real contexts, under the guidance of mentors and tutors.

This edition focuses on the relationship between rivers and cities, analysed as a balance between use, protection and adaptation to climate risks. The case study of Škofja Loka, at the confluence of the Selška and Poljanska Sora rivers, will allow work to be carried out on various river areas — from public and recreational spaces to brownfield sites and flood-prone areas — with the aim of improving accessibility, enhancing nature-based solutions, promoting resilient strategies and regenerating existing contexts through sustainable and participatory processes, also in comparison with international examples.

Virtual mobility will take place from 10 to 17 April 2026, while face-to-face mobility will take place in Ljubljana from 23 to 27 April 2026.

As regards the participation procedures, applications must be submitted online from 13 February 2026 to 26 February 2026 via the ESSE3 reserved area (International Mobility > Mobility Calls), attaching a CV, cover letter, summary portfolio and any required certifications. The selection will mainly take into account project experience and year of enrolment, with priority given to students who have not already participated in other mobility experiences.

The results will be published on 4 March 2026, with acceptance by students by 6 March 2026. Participation entitles students to 3 ECTS credits.
