Advances in Asphalt Binder Recovery: Outcomes from a Six-Month Activity at UnivPM

Seminar Announcement – 17 aprile 2024

Ore 12:00, Aula ST2 “Giannini” – Dip. ICEA Area Strade

PhD. candidate Bethania Correa

Bethania Correa is a PhD candidate at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. She got the Bachelor (2017) and Master degree (2020) in Civil Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil. Currently, her research focuses on recycled asphalt mixtures and rheology of asphalt binders with particular emphasis on the use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in asphalt concrete.

The seminar shows the main outcomes obtained from a six-moth activity at the Transport and Road Research Laboratory of the Università Politecnica delle Marche (Ancona, Italy) on asphalt binder recovery process. EN and ASTM protocols for recovering asphalt binders were applied and adapted for the reliable extraction of laboratory-aged bitumen and RAP binder. Results were analysed in terms of complex modulus, phase angle, fatigue and permanent deformation resistance. The findings give a contribution to the standardization of binder recovery procedures in Brazil to be applied to RAP binder.
